top five ways you can help
Be a member of our CSA
By investing in our farm in the beginning of the season, you help us buy the supplies we need (like high-quality seeds and soil amendments), so that we can get growing! This season we are offering a market-style CSA. Members are invited to invest at different levels to best suit their needs. This investment is then credited to your account with our farm. Throughout the season, members can use their farm credit to shop at our market stand and bring home the fruits and veggies that they like the most. To say “thank you” for the up-front investment, we offer a bonus credit -- based on how much you invest, we add an additional 5-10% value to your account!
Invest in the Community Share
This year, we will be offering the opportunity for you to give back to the community, with the community share! By investing in a community share you are helping us fulfill our mission to provide fresh and diverse vegetables to our neighbors. Each week we will deliver a basket of produce to our community partner, comprised of vegetables paid for by the community share, as well as any vegetables not claimed from our weekly pick-ups.
This year’s community share will benefit Table Grace Cafe, a local restaurant whose mission is to “foster a healthy community by offering great food prepared and served in a graceful manner to anyone who walks through the door”. Volunteer
On a farm, there is always work to be done. While we love to spend time growing vegetables and foraging fruits, its always more fun with friends! Being in the city, we are surrounded by people and we would love to grow with you. We host several organized, family-friendly volunteer days throughout the season. If you are interested in contributing more, please let us know and we would be happy to find a schedule for more regular volunteering! Take a moment and fill out this short volunteer application.
Save your seeds
Part of our mission is to create a localized food system, that is resilient and sustainable. By using open-pollinated seeds, we are able to save seeds from our crops. By growing seeds that are acclimated to our region, we are increasing our local food security. We love to grow seeds that were saved by our friends, and will be happy to share our seeds.
Start your own garden
We recognize that this is not top on everyone's list of projects, but if you are passionate about local food, growing your own will get you about as close as possible to the freshest of the fresh. This could mean starting a few raised beds in your backyard (or front yard!), planting herbs in your window-sill, or tilling your whole yard and replacing lawn with food.
Our farm is collective of local food producers and we are interested in including other food producers in our collective as a means to increasing locally sourced, diverse produce in Omaha. If you are interested in participating in Big Muddy Urban Farm as a food producer, lets meet and talk about the possibilities!
